Bureau conduct training to investors and process coordinators.

Investment expansion work process of trade and industry bureau conduct a three day training to more than 80 investors and investment process coordinators from different parts of the region.

On the opening speech of the training at bureau millennium hall, Vice President of the SNNPR and head of trade  and industry bureau Ato Tagesse Chaffo, explains that the training will help to share experience and it is indicative of officials commitment to motivate private sector development.   <<Private investment has irreplaceable role in regional and national development so that the bureau is working with utmost effort to create conducive situation for investors in the region.>>   He adds.

The investors  who come from South Omo, Gedeo, Sidama and Silti Zones,  Hawassa city, Halaba, Amaro and Burji special woredas are investing on agriculture, coffee, service and industries sectors in those areas.

Offered by process owner and experts in the work process, the training addresses entrepreneurship, business management, marketing and sale strategies, business plan writing techniques, quality management and profit and lost assumption procedures.

The three days training (Dece29-31/2009) completed by handing over certificate of participation for the investors and investment process coordinators.



GOOD News to Invest In Southern Ethiopia

There are true reasons to be investor in Southern Regional State.

SNNPR State, aiming at attracting investment in the region, has currently prepared special incentive schemes to investors who are interested in selected sectors.

The following are areas of investment and corresponding incentives available to any investor from inland and abroad.

Project areas and types having special incentives from regional state.

            1.         Industry
Projects in the production of fertilizer, herbicides and insecticides, medicines, agricultural machineries, construction materials, electric equipments and coffee processing machine.

In addition, textile and ginnery, tanning and product processing, spice processing, sugar production, animal product processing, fruit and vegetable processing and others.

            2.         Social services.
First grade, medium, higher and special general hospitals, high and technical schools, higher education, primary and kindergarten schools, humanitarian organizations, star level hotels as well as lodges and tour operations.

            3.         Real-estates.
-           Construction of houses greater or equal to twenty five for leasing and residential purpose.
-           Three or more storey building constructed for leasing purpose and other similar investments have incentives.

Major Investment Incentives.

  1. Custom import duty.
    100% exemption of import customer duties and other taxes levied import to all investment goods.
  2. Exemption from payment of export customs duties except coffee.
  3. Income tax freedom grant subject to council of ministers regulation No. 711996.
  4. Research and development incentives.
  5. Loss carried forward to enterprises those suffer from losses following tax exemption period.  The length of the period depends on the location of the enterprise in the region.
  6. Calculating depreciation up on the choice of investor, either straight line or accelerated methods.
  7. Reasonable land rent
    Minimum          Birr 30/ha/year
            Maximum           "    117/ha/year
  8. Rural land rent exemptions from 3 – 20 years for investments in perennial tropical fruits, coffee, tea and forest  developments.
  9. Urban land free from lease (with negotiation) to investment projects specified above.
