Research in Trade and Industry

The SNNPR, Trade and Industry Bureau gives due attention for research as it is the basic tool for identifying the problems and seeking for the best solution. For this reason the former ICT and Statistics service of the bureau has been reorganized to be Research and ICT service as of Sept.11/2008. Up on its organization, the Research and ICT service together with the advisory team of the bureau has prepared the Terms of Reference for Research under BOTI. The bureau is working in collaboration with Hawassa University, The Engineering Capacity Building Program (ecbp), The SNV and other organizations in relation with the research work. A University-Industry Linkage is established and this linkage is being assisted by the aforementioned organizations. 26 areas of research have been identified in five different categories.Here are the research topics under their corresponding categories:

 
Micro and Small Enterprises Development
 
  1. Regional Capacity Building Needs for MSEs Internationalization
  2. Impact Evaluation of Regional MSEs Development Interventions Program
  3. Micro and Small enterprises baseline survey
  4. Establishing Private Sector, University, Technique, Vocational Education and Training (TVET) partnership for Industry Development
  5. Internationalization of Micro and Small Enterprises
  6. Construction Industry Development for MSEs
  7. Regional Industrial/ MSEs/ Product Specialization based on Comparative and
    Competitive Advantages for industrialization
  8. Creating an ICT access for MSEs for business
  9. Marketing Strategies for MSEs’ Products for which the region has Comparative
    and Competitive Advantages in the global market.
  10. How to run Efficient, Effective and Sustainable Business Management and Skill
    Development Training Programs in the region compatible to internationalization.
  11. How to provide Efficient, Effective and Sustainable Business Development
    Counseling Service in the region compatible to global market
  12. Identifying sustainable system for entrepreneur Development Strategies of the Region
  13. Identifying sustainable system for Creating Better Access to Work Premises for MSEs compatible to global market
  14. Identifying sustainable system and best practice for Creating Better Access to Financial Services for MSEs internationalization
  15. Appropriate Technology Innovation, Adoption, Multiplication and Dissemination that enhances globalization of MSEs
    MSEs’ Product Quality, Productivity and Competitiveness Improvement Strategies that facilitate internationalization
    Improvement of quality and standard of handicrafts produced for the National and global tourism market.
